Why I come home from most trips with a few hundred frames instead of a few thousand, and edit down to twenty.

On my first big trip I shot nine thousand frames in two weeks. I spent a month editing them and kept fewer than thirty. The maths stayed with me.
Shooting less is not about discipline for its own sake. It is about attention. When I know I will only take a handful of pictures at a location, I walk around it for longer, I wait for the light to settle, and I notice things I would have photographed past.
It also changes the edit. A small set of considered frames is easier to sequence into a series that says something, instead of a gallery that simply proves I was there.
Every series on this site started with a camera that stayed in the bag for most of the day. I think that is why they hold together.
