The islands, glens and east coast beaches I can reach before sunrise. Most personal series start here, and I run small workshops on Harris and in the Highlands each spring and autumn.
About Elena
Edinburgh / Anywhere
Since 2015
Coasts, mountains and small towns, photographed for editors, outdoor brands and people who collect prints. Most of my work happens in the hours either side of bad weather.
How I work
I photograph what the weather leaves behind. Mist, wet sand, the first snow on a ridge.

I grew up on the Fife coast, where the haar rolls in off the North Sea without warning, and learned to take pictures on long walks with a borrowed camera and no plan. After five years assisting commercial photographers in Glasgow, I went out on my own in 2015.
Since then I have photographed in 24 countries for travel magazines, tourism boards and outdoor brands. Between commissions I work on long personal series, returning to the same coast or glen across several seasons, and every one of them ends up in print.
I still prefer working alone or with one assistant. It keeps the footprint small and the schedule flexible, which matters when the best hour of a trip can arrive on the last morning.

Magazine and brand work in 24 countries, from Arctic Norway to the Atacama. I travel with a small kit and a flexible schedule, and plan every trip around the season it deserves.
